Michael Gibbs' illustrations Eight Ball, Crossing America, and The Visit recently received awards for illustration in the 56th annual juried exhibition of the Art Directors Club of Metropolitan Washington.
A panel of designers from across the country selected the best and most innovative design and illustration produced in the Washington, DC metropolitan area over the past year. This year's jurors included Stefan Bucher of 344 Design in Pasadena, CA., Emily Oberman of Number17 Design in New York City, and Derek Sussner of Sussner Design in Minneapolis, MN. The selected works will be on display at the Club's annual black-tie awards dinner, and will be included in the upcoming annual show catalog.
Eight Ball illustrated a fictional story in Realms of Fantasy Magazine, Crossing America is an unpublished personal piece, and The Visit was a poster created for the Pittsburgh Repertory Theater's production of a play by Friedrich Durrenmatt. The Visit was also recognized by the Society of Illustrators, in the current juried exhibition.
